It’s been a long day, so I can’t be bothered to think about anything of any substance to write. So therefore I’m going to ignore doing the merciful thing (and not posting at all) and instead I’m going to give you guys a quick rundown of the music I’ve been listening to lately. Maybe you’ll enjoy it as much as I have been. Oh, and I’m going to see Dylan Moran tomorrow, so don’t expect a post!
Man Man This is great, but very, very strange. I think I called it ‘Pirate Folk’ to a friend of mine. I guess that’s a good an explanation as any. It’s great, regardless.
Sigur Ros’ New album is utterly delightful in almost every way. It’s not quite as contemplative as their previous work, but what it loses in poignancy it makes up for in pure energy. The whole thing is rather brilliant, and definitely worth many, many listens.
The Tallest Man on Earth: This is just a guy with a guitar, and it’s some of the loneliest, but most optimistic stuff I’ve ever heard. It’s great for just losing yourself in, and I wholeheartedly recommend it if you feel like a bit of excellent fingerpicking and earnest singing.
The Calm Blue Sea are part of a new wave of excellent Post Rock bands following in the footsteps of the great Godspeed You! Black Emperor and A Silver Mt.Zion. And they’re definitely one of the better ones.
That’s pretty much it… there are a few other bands I’ve been listening to lately, but these are definitely the ones occupying most of my audible real estate.
